The 2020-21 SCAHL hockey season will get underway on November 6, 2020, in what is being defined as the "Modified Competition Season".
The SCAHL, following Covid safety guidelines established between Hockey Alberta and Alberta Health Services, will begin the season following "Cohort Scheduling". This format allows hockey leagues to establish "competition cohorts", which are essentially rotating 2-team groups. The League will pair two teams together into their Cohort, they will play 2 games over two weekends. After these 4 games over two weekends, they will then enter a 14 day non-competition period during which time they may only practice in their individual team group. After this two week OFF period the teams will enter a new 2-team cohort group for two weekends and 4 games, then have another 2-week OFF period.
At this time, the SCAHL will follow this format until such time as Covid 19 guidelines as established by AHS and Hockey Alberta may be modified.
The SCAHL is one of 4 AA Leagues established in Alberta, along with the Northern League, Hockey Edmonton and Hockey Calgary. The League has been in existence since 1993, and is comprised of 4 Divisions: U13, U15, U16 and U18.
In 2020-21 there are 14 Member SCAHL Associations, competing with 50 teams (18 in U13, !3 in U15 and U18, and 6 in our newly formed trial Division, the U16 group).
Schedules are now posted in U15 and U18 for the November to December period. The U13 and U16 schedules are under review at present and will be finalized and posted prior to October 23.
